Kate Middleton Shared a New Photo of Princess Charlotte with a Butterfly

Kate Middleton shared a sweet new photo of her daughter, 6-year-old Princess Charlotte, doing something ridiculously cute: holding a butterfly.

The caption on Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s Instagram reads: “We wanted to share these beautiful Peacock and Red Admiral butterflies as part of Big #ButterflyCount initiative taking place across the UK. @savebutterflies are encouraging us all to count these incredible creatures because not only are they beautiful creatures to be around but they are also extremely important. Butterflies are vital parts of the ecosystem as both pollinators and components of the food chain. Hopefully you can beat last year’s total, @savebutterflies 🦋.”

Charlotte turned 6 years old on May 2, but according to her father, Prince William, she has an entirely different idea of how old she is:

“She’s six, yeah,” he said in early May, via Daily Mail. “If you ask her, she says she’s 16…Charlotte says, ‘I’m 6 now, I’ll do what I want.’ It’s like, they grow up really fast.”

The royal family released this photo (a big toothy grin) of the young princess on her birthday:

In the same interview, William did detail Charlotte’s big day, which was slightly more eventful than her lockdown birthday in 2020.

“She did [have a lovely birthday], thank you very much, yes,” he said. “Unfortunately for her obviously last year there was no birthday party because of lockdown but this year [we had] one other family, so that was it. So it wasn’t a party as such but we made it as fun for her as possible.”
