Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande Lead 2020 MTV VMA Nominations: See Full List Of Nominees

Not even a global pandemic can stop the MTV Video Music Awards. Ahead of this year’s event, the VMAs rolled out the list of nominations, including Taylor Swift for Video Of The Year!

The show must go on. Though the COVID-19 pandemic has postponed everything from the 2020 Olympics to Chromatica to Coachella, the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards will take place, as planned, on Aug. 30 at will go on as planned on Aug. 31. Not only that, but the show will also be live and in-person at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the first major event at the venue since the coronavirus outbreak. But, you can’t have the VMAs without nominees, and the network rolled out the information on Thursday, July 30. Stars like Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, and Billie Eilish all scored nominations. Check out the full list down below.

In addition to helping “reopen” the Barclays Center,  VMAs will use the whole of New York City will as a backdrop. Featured performances will take place all over the five boroughs – Brooklyn, The Bronx, Queens, Staten Island, and Manhattan. Think Taylor Swift Singing ‘You Belong To Me’ On  The F Train in 2009.” This move, according to an MTV statement, is meant to “honor the spirit and resilience of New York,” which was hit hard by the pandemic. The show will also have “limited or no audience,” and the show producers have been working closes with Barclays Center management and “state and local officials to implement best practices for everyone involved.”

Before the official rollout of the nominees, the VMAs announced the nominees in the PUSH Best New Artist Category. AJ Mitchell, Arizona Zervas, Ava Max, BENEE, BROCKHAMPTON, Conan Gray, Doja Cat, FINNEAS, Jack Harlow, Kiana Ledé, Lewis Capaldi, Lil Tecca, the late Pop Smoke, Roddy Ricch, Summer Walker, Tate McRae, and YUNGBLUD are all nominated. It’s a fan-voted category, and ballots can be cast over at VMA.MTV.com.

Last year, fans watched as Taylor Swift’s “You Need to Calm Down” win Video of the year, while Ariana Grande took home the award for Artist Of The Year. “Old Town Road(remix)” gave Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus the Song of the Year Award, and BTS was crowned Best Group. Billie Eilish won both PUSH Artist of the Year and Best New Artist, and Cardi B claimed Best Hip Hop video for “Money.”
