Princess Sofia of Sweden Volunteers at Local Hospital During Coronavirus

Princess Sofia of Sweden is helping healthcare workers take precautions amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

According to People, the princess has completed an intensive online training program and is now assisting the frontline effort at Sophiahemmet Hospital, of which she is the Honorary Chair. She isn’t the only one jumping in to help; about 80 people per week complete the emergency training program, the outlet reports.

Sofia was photographed for her first day on the job where she posed with other medical workers, donning a royal blue and white set of scrubs and white lace up sneakers.

A Sophiahemmet Hospital spokeswoman confirmed however that the princess will not be directly working with patients, but rather helping assist doctors and nurses with tasks such as disinfecting equipment, morning cleaning, and kitchen shifts. So far, Sophiahemmet Hospital has no confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of yesterday, but Sweden overall has had over 12,500 confirmed cases.

“In the crisis we find ourselves in, the Princess wants to get involved and make a contribution as a voluntary worker to relieve the large workload of health care professionals,” read a statement from the royal court.

Princess Sofia is married to Prince Carl Philip, the son of Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia. Sofia and Carl Philip have two young children together.
