On the off chance Jennifer Aniston was accepting friendship applications anytime soon, there’s one requirement to being her friend that’s absolutely non-negotiable: getting vaccinated for COVID-19. Vaccinations are strongly encouraged to help folks resume their outside activities and interests safely, and Aniston explained in her recent InStyle cover story why she co-signs everyone who is able getting vaccinated.
During the interview, Aniston admitted she loves The Bachelor (Paradise, of course) as well as CNN, though she had to take a break from the constant negative news cycle and coronavirus updates leaving her feeling hopeless. Because of this, she’s had to limit who she lets in her space as she said “there’s still a large group of people who are anti-vaxxers or just don’t listen to the facts. It’s a real shame,” she told the outlet. She takes vaccinations seriously and hopes everyone around her feels the same. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case.
“I’ve just lost a few people in my weekly routine who have refused or did not disclose [whether or not they had been vaccinated], and it was unfortunate. I feel it’s your moral and professional obligation to inform, since we’re not all podded up and being tested every single day,” Aniston added. Of course, she believes people are free to make their own decisions, “but a lot of opinions don’t feel based in anything except fear or propaganda,” she said.
For those wondering, Aniston announced she was vaccinated earlier this year in May, writing on Instagram, “Fully vaccinated and it feels soooo good.” In her caption, she encouraged others who were considering the vaccine to not only think about themselves but their friends and family. “We are extremely lucky and privileged to have access to Covid-19 vaccines in the U.S. right now. Unfortunately, that’s not the case everywhere… and as we know, the health of one of us affects all of us. Thinking about those who do not or will not have the opportunity to get vaccinated and hug their friends and family,” she continued.
Naturally, Aniston’s comments didn’t go over easy with everyone, so she took to her socials to respond to a commenter who questioned why she’d be concerned with someone who isn’t vaccinated if she is vaccinated.
“Because if you have the variant, you are still able to give it to me. I may get slightly sick but I will not be admitted to a hospital and or die,” she explained on her Instagram Story. “BUT I CAN give it to someone else who does not have the vaccine and whose health is compromised (or has a previous existing condition) —and therefore I would put their lives at risk. THAT is why I worry.”
