After several months of rehabilitation after illness
Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani has died at the age of 91, Reuters reports.
“It is with immense sadness that the Armani Group announces the death of its creator, founder and tireless driving force, Giorgio Armani,” the Armani Group said in a statement.
The designer was hospitalized earlier this summer, which is why he missed his brand's shows at Milan Men's Fashion Week in June, a first in his career.
On Saturday and Sunday, everyone will be able to say goodbye to Armani in his chapel in Milan. A private funeral ceremony will then take place at a date yet to be determined.
Giorgio Armani was 41 when he founded the business with Sergio Galeotti. Just seven years later, the designer appeared on the cover of TIME magazine.
According to BOF, Giorgio's first men's designs, with their lowered buttons and soft fabrics that accentuated the body's curves, were an instant hit with buyers. Later, the designer adapted a similar silhouette for women. Giorgio Armani drew on the tradition of Neapolitan tailoring with its relaxed, natural silhouettes.
“Elegance is not about being noticed. It's about being remembered,” the designer noted.
Thanks to the success of the Armani Group, he became the richest designer on the Forbes 2024 billionaires list.
