Heather Morris Tweeted to Ask If She Could Join the Search for Naya Rivera

Heather Morris played one-half of the iconic Glee couple, Brittany and Santana, who eventually went on to get married on the show. She and her co-star Naya Rivera have stayed close since they first appeared on the popular Fox show. Early Sunday morning, she tweeted at the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office to say she wanted join the current search for Rivera, who’s been missing since last Wednesday.

“My name is Heather Morris, I’m Nayas close friend and co-worker, and I’m trying to conduct an on foot search and rescue mission along with a small group of friends at Lake Piru,” she wrote in response to the team’s update that the search was winding down for the day. “I understand your team is doing EVERYTHING in their power, but we are feeling helpless, powerless and want to help in any way. I have left a message with the department of Rescue and Air today, and I will call again tomorrow. Thank you.”

On Thursday, the Ventura Sheriff’s Office announced that the search-and-rescue mission had become a “search-and-recovery operation.”

“We’re presuming that an accident happened, we’re presuming that she drowned in the lake,” Officer Chris Dyer of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said. “There are no signs of foul play, no signs that anything went wrong, besides a tragic accident.”

Together, Morris and Rivera helped queer teens see that they were visible and worthy of love. This past week, many fans tweeted about the influence Rivera and her character had on them.

She inspired me, she played a character that made me realize that I’m not alone in my struggles as a member of the LGBTQ community, she was somebody that gave me the confidence I needed to be myself and face the world without fear. R.I.P Naya Rivera, I love you 3000 ♥ pic.twitter.com/x48SqQ33jw

I keep checking Twitter for updates on #NayaRivera. I never worked with her or met her but I loved her “I’m a force of nature” energy and sheer presence in her work as Santana on #Glee and I feel a deep sadness at the story – as we know it. Life can change so very, very quickly.

naya rivera literally saved my life. she saved countless lives with the beloved character she played. we will never be able to repay her for what she did for the lgbtq community. naya is the definition of a true ally and for that i’ll always be immensely grateful.
