Demi Lovato Breaks Silence on Fiancé Max Ehrich’s Old Selena Gomez Comments

Demi Lovato broke her silence yesterday after old tweets and Instagram comments where her fiancé Max Ehrich seemingly gushed about Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Gigi Hadid, and more stars went viral from before he started dating Lovato. Fans noticed that Ehrich was particularly obsessed with Gomez, writing about how he wanted to marry her on his social media multiple times.

Lovato claimed the posts were fake, and some may have been. Ehrich deleted his Twitter, making it impossible to verify the tweets now. But fans took screenshots of the posts, and some of Ehrich’s comments about Gomez got media attention long before Lovato wrote about it. The Blast and J-14 wrote about Ehrich’s old posts about wanting to marry Gomez back in June, shortly after Lovato announced her engagement to Ehrich. Ehrich also gushed about Gomez in an old Instagram Live video, addressing his tweets about her and his longstanding crush.

“I think she’s an extremely, extremely, extremely talented girl, and I’ve actually had a major crush on her since 2010,” he started. “And I—my teenage self, like, said it in an interview as well so it’s kind of been this ongoing thing but then like obviously I put it out on Twitter, and I didn’t even realize that would catch like—that people would take that like seriously.”

“But yeah, I honestly think Selena Gomez is an extraordinary women,” he continued. “What she stands for charity-wise, just being an activist, she just has a great heart. Her heart is in the right place. She loves Jesus. She loves God. She’s just like, she’s an angel, and I love her, but on top of that, I respect her musically and I want to make music with her. Okay? I want to make a song with her and put out a song.”

Fans on social media feared Ehrich, a former soap opera star, was just using Lovato (the two got engaged after less than five months of dating). “max ehrich is a creep that has tried to get famous women’s attention for years (especially selena gomez),” one fan wrote. “he is a clout chaser and was even commenting on many other women’s posts a few days before he got with his fiancé, demi lovato.”

You can literally see here he’s said the exact same thing as he did to every other celebrity and demi was the only one to let him in her life. Max is using demi to boot his career and it’s worked. i really do feel sick pic.twitter.com/Yn49Ovlr2r

Lovato posted a statement to her Instagram Story, telling fans and tabloids to stop creating fake drama and to confront the issues that really matter, like the Black Lives Matter movement and seeking justice for Breonna Taylor. She added that any drama she has between someone is private. (Lovato spoke to Harper’s Bazaar earlier this year about how she and Gomez are no longer friends: “When you grow up with somebody, you’re always going to have love for them,” Lovato started when asked about Gomez’s Grammys 2020 tribute to her. “But I’m not friends with her, so it felt …” Lovato stopped herself. “I will always have love for her, and I wish everybody nothing but the best.”)

She wrote, regarding the Ehrich posts:

It’s really sad when people FAKE images to put women against each other. If women have conflict that’s between them NOT YOU. Secondly, don’t y’all have more important shit to write about in 2020??? I challenge any tabloid that dares to type my name to mention Breonna Taylor and the fact that her murderers still haven’t been arrested. WRITE ABOUT THAT.But then I stop and think.. it’s hella rude but damn.. I get it. And I don’t wanna look at what’s really happening in the world either but WE HAVE TO. Yes, it’s easier to tear apart celebrities and their relationships because 2020 sucks and scares the shit out of us all but it’s only gonna stay terrifying until we address it all and WORK ON SOLUTIONS TOGETHER.So while on one hand I understand and have compassion for those who are so horrified at the reality of 2020 that they gotta distract themselves with doctored images in order to not focus on how bad these times are—but on the other hand, if you aren’t 13 years old trying to grasp the reality of right now, put on your adult underpants and write about what actually matters. Please.”
