Kelly Clarkson is ready to talk a little about what it has been like as she and her ex-husband and manager Brandon Blackstock go through the process of legally separating. The singer appeared on Sunday Today With Willie Geist and addressed how she was feeling directly.
“I mean, it’s no secret,” she started. “My life has been a little bit of a dumpster… personally, it’s been a little hard the last couple months.”
“I’ve been talking to friends that have been through divorce,” she continued. “I don’t know how people go through that without having some kind of outlet because it is the worst thing ever for everyone involved.”
She added that her upcoming music will address the split. “This next record, this will probably be the most personal one I’ve ever released,” Clarkson said. “And the whole record is basically every emotion you experience from the beginning of a relationship to the end of what it is now, and it’s been very therapeutic for me. It’s very honest.”
Clarkson filed for divorce from Blackstock, who she has been married to for nearly seven years, in June. They share two children: River, 6, and Remington, 4.
A source told Entertainment Tonight at the time that Clarkson and Blackstock had “been having problems for several months” and that they realized, while in quarantine, that their marriage couldn’t be saved.
“The constant time together seemed to make an already challenging situation worse,” the source said. The outlet reported that Clarkson has a premartial agreement in place, which she requested the court to enforce. She has asked for joint physical and legal custody of their two kids.
