Camila Cabello celebrated Memorial Day by posting a photo dump on her Instagram, giving her fans a glimpse of her life with her boyfriend, Shawn Mendes, in Los Angeles. While there were several shots of herself in the gallery, tucked within the Instagram post was a photo of her and Mendes passionately kissing. Consider it a public signal that one month before their two-year anniversary on July 4, Mendes and Cabello are doing great.

In December 2020, Mendes spoke about the moment their longtime friendship changed. “I think I was just bugging her along for a long time about how I felt about her,” he told SiriusXM Hits 1’s Celebrity Session. “I think I was in Calgary or Edmonton, Canada, and I was at dinner with two of my friends and she texted me basically being like, ‘Okay, fine. I like you. Okay, fine. This is a thing.’ And I have the text, I have this, I screenshotted the text messages. I was like, ‘finally, she caved. It was so great.’”
Cabello has spoken before about how she first developed feelings for Mendes in 2015. “During ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer,’ I really bonded with him as more than a friend,” she told Rolling Stone in November 2019. “I think he did, too, but we were both really young, and he was experiencing the pressures of his career. I don’t think we knew what to do with those feelings. It was this awkward thing where we both liked each other, but we weren’t together. It was just weird. An energy was there from the beginning, but after that song, we didn’t spend as much time together. Our paths just didn’t cross in that way romantically until we started hanging out again and writing [‘Señorita’]. For me, it just brought it back.”
