See Prince Louis’ Third Birthday Photo Taken by Kate Middleton

Kate Middleton and Prince William continued their tradition of posting portraits of their children to mark their birthdays this afternoon. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s youngest child, Prince Louis, turns three tomorrow. The couple marked the occasion by posting a new Instagram featuring a photo of Louis before he went to his first day of nursery school. It was taken by Kate, of course. The new shot showcases how much Louis has grown in the last year—and how much he resembles his mother.

“Three tomorrow! 🚲Taken earlier this week by The Duchess before he left for his first day of nursery, The Duke and Duchess are pleased to share a new image of Prince Louis. 🎈,” the couple wrote on the Kensington Royal Instagram.

Not a lot is known about Louis’ life. The couple has made a point to give their three children, Louis, Princess Charlotte, who’s five (but turning six on May 2), and seven-year-old Prince George as much privacy as they can given their royal family status.

In November, Us Weekly got a little detail about what Louis’ personality is like compared to his older brother and sister. Kate values her kids above all, the source said: “Family means everything to the mom of three, and one of her biggest worries about the future is not being there for George, Charlotte, and Louis. George is well-behaved. All the kids are, but Charlotte and Louis both have a cheeky streak. Louis is more like Charlotte in personality than George!”

In April 2020, Kate detailed a little bit about Louis’s “cheeky” side during an interview with the BBC about her life in quarantine. When the kids do video calls with other members of the family, “It gets a bit hectic, I’m not going to lie. With a two-year-old you have to take the phone away. It’s quite hectic for them all to say the right thing at the right time without pressing the wrong buttons. But it’s great and it’s nice to keep in touch with everybody.”
