Kendall Jenner Will Pay $90,000 in Fyre Festival Lawsuit

A 2017 Instagram post promoting the infamous failed music festival Fyre Festival will cost Kendall Jenner almost $100,000. Women’s Wear Daily reports that the model has agreed to pay $90,000 as a settlement, according to court documents the outlet reviewed, after she was sued last August by Gregory Messer. Messer, WWD wrote, is “recovering money for creditors that lost money investing in the festival.” The case was decided in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York.

Other celebs who promoted Fyre Festival were also sued, model Emily Ratajkowski among them. Jenner was paid $275,000 for the Instagram post, court documents stated.

Netflix’s Fyre documentary had more details on Jenner’s role with the festival, including the fact that organizers illegally used her name to sell tickets for a party during the festival. Apparently, the festival claimed that Jenner would be hosting an exclusive yacht party. Tickets were $10,000 per person.

Jenner spoke about her involvement with Fyre last April and how she didn’t realize it would be the scam and disaster it ultimately ended up being. She told the New York Times, “You get reached out to by people to, whether it be to promote or help or whatever, and you never know how these things are going to turn out, sometimes it’s a risk. I definitely do as much research as I can, but sometimes there isn’t much research you can do because it’s a starting brand and you kind of have to have faith in it and hope it will work out the way people say it will. You never really know what’s going to happen.”
