A day after Mackenzie McKee lost her mom Angie Douthit to cancer, the ‘Teen Mom OG’ star shared an emotional tribute post to the person who ‘held [her] together.’
Mackenzie McKee, 25, poured her emotions into a moving tribute shortly after her mother, Angie Douthit, died following a long battle with brain cancer on Dec. 9. The Teen Mom OG star’s mom was only 50 years old, and Mackenzie took to Instagram a day later to reveal her feelings in the wake of such a tragedy. Sharing a throwback photo of her mother crossing the finish line of a race while dressed in a tutu, Mackenzie wrote, “Momma @angiedouthit has crossed the finish line. She did not lose the battle, she one. She is healed and running in heaven in eternity. Idk anyone who left earth with such an impact, Your entire life you never waisted [sic] a chance to let the world know Gods love.”
Mackenzie continued to gush about her mom’s strong faith in God before moving onto their own mother-daughter relationship. “Momma, i did not deserve you. But you loved me so unconditionally. You were the glue that held me together. The one who always believed in me,” Mackenzie wrote. The loss is so painful for the MTV star, she now can’t imagine living too long without her mother by her side. “Idk what I will do without you but I hope this goes by fast so I can hurry and come be with you,” she confessed in Tuesday’s post.
The mother of four followed up the tribute post with a photo of her family, which showed Mackenzie snuggling with her husband Josh McKee and their daughter Jaxie, 5, and son Gannon, 8, on a stairwell outside a Christmas concert. Angie had been looking forward to the event, and so little Jaxie honored her grandmother in the most sentimental way. “Mom was so excited to go watch the kids in their Christmas program. It has been a long exhausting week but we somehow made it to the concert and Jaxie was so happy to wear one of her chemo hats. Her favorite,” Mackenzie wrote under the sweet Instagram post on Dec. 10.

Idk anyone who left earth with such an impact, Your entire life you never waisted a chance to let the world know Gods love. When we would try to brag on what an amazing person you are you would respond with “it’s not me, it’s God” Could you imagine this world if we all lived like Angie Douthit. She always said “it’s easy, we were put on earth to share Gods love.” And boy did she. 700 daily post for you guys to read daily, hundreds of speaking engagements even when she could barely walk or speak, she simply trusted That God would speak through her. Momma, i did not deserve you. But you loved me so unconditionally. You were the glue that held me together. The one who always believed in me. Idk what I will do without you but I hope this goes by fast so I can hurry and come be with you. You passed a torch down to us and I will not fail you. I will live for Christ and love like him like you always taught me. I will make you proud momma.
Mackenzie’s co-star on Teen Mom OG, Catelynn Lowell, jumped into the comments section of the tribute post to leave her condolences. “I’m so sorry for your loss,” she wrote, echoing what thousands of fans have commented. Fans first learned of the heartbreaking news on Dec. 10, when Mackenzie’s family revealed that Angie had passed the night prior in an Instagram post that served as the first one Angie herself hadn’t written in “nearly two years.”

Mackenzie’s family also revealed that Angie first learned about her cancer in Jan. 2018, which turned out to be a diagnosis for Stage 4 brain cancer. Angie shared even more about her battle with cancer, which she fiercely fought as proven by her regular posts on Instagram, during the Teen Mom OG reunion that aired in September. “I’m unique from what my doctors tell me. I have non-small cell carcinoma in my lungs, which is lung cancer. Stage 4. I also have small cell carcinoma in my lungs, and that doesn’t happen. No one gets both kinds of lung cancer. A non smoker, a marathon runner, it’s just blowing everyone’s mind,” Angie admitted to Dr. Drew.
Elaborating the gravity of the situation, she continued, “I have 10 tumors in my brain. I have a tumor the size of an orange in my right lung that was wrapped around my windpipe. There are so many tiny tumors in my lungs, I stopped counting on 40 on this side and just gave up on that side. It’s in my bones, it’s in my liver, it’s all over.”
