Anti-celebrity legend: the phenomenon of Winoni Ryder

The skin of ten years has been dreaming of its heroine – the one who mirrors your nerve. In the nineties, it was Winona Ryder. Not to the one that met the standards of the era, but to the one that broke them. Hollywood churned out glamorous dolls, and Ryder was deprived of an outsider – wild, original, smart. This sharpness affected the directors, the lack of transferability of the studio, and the originality was not invested in the format of the glossy covers. And, astonishingly, she herself did not allow him to take his eyes off her.

Their birth and childhood is a ready-made script for an arthouse film. Her mother gave birth to her early in the town of Winona, Minnesota, just before traveling to her relatives. My little girl cared for the honor of this place, and not for the honor of some saint, as one might think, at first glance. The middle name, Laura, is in honor of the friend of the writer Aldous Huxley, who was a friend of her father. Before the word, Father Vainoni was among the Jewish emigrants who lingered in Kharkov until the 1917 revolution.

All of her adventures started to click: this girl will become a character. Their fathers are hips, intellectuals from San Francisco, who wanted to collect books, not capital. They studied literature, were friends with Allen Ginzberg, and were involved in the countercultural movement. There grew up among books, philosophical thoughts and without electricity – a small family of fate lived in a rural commune in the town of Elk in the middle of California, among red redwood trees. As a joy, her mother, a great film projector, showed films on display in the old barn, using a vikorist and spitting projector. The list of “home” movies was formed not from cartoons, but from lines by John Cassavetes and Genie Rowlands.

When the girl was ten, her homeland moved to Petalumi, also in the state of California. Sublime's eccentricity turned against her: black cloth, short hair, Selinger melancholy – her favorite book was “The Catcher in Life” – and alienation. At school they beat her and made fun of her – for her looks, for her wildness, for not being “like a mustache.”

The professional journey began early and ended ascetically: Winona took theater courses in San Francisco and suddenly spent time on casting for the film “Lucas.” Their samples were recorded on VHS – a spitting agent, and already during the war she was filming her first project. Another film, “Quadrille” (Square Dance), has already won the respect of critics. No native producers, no “insiders” from the studios – the family Volvo drove from California to Los Angeles for castings. A new breakthrough has arisen if we have lost our hands on a wonderful script called “Beetlejuice”. The story of a gothic girl who befriends ghosts seemed like the end of her powerful childhood.

The girl who bashed the dead

The script for “Beetlejuice” appeared instantly. At the audition, there was Tim Burton, a young director with black cola under his eyes and a youthful sarcasm. Her sustrich looked happier as Rozmov’s two like-minded people, lower actor’s casting. Absurd, dark, warm – just like the heroine, as it looks like nothing from the reality of the pit. Winona, with her dark blue-black hair, her black second-hand clothes, and her way of talking about old movies and gothic, immediately fell for not a contender, but a ready-made character.

Lydia Dietz became the beloved heroine of everyone who felt like a stranger – at school, at the town, at the powerful homeland. She is not a princess, not a rebel, not a victim and not a rebel – just a girl who does not trust grown-ups and is more sensitive to the dead than to the understanding of the living. After Ryder became Lydia, she ceased to be just a promising actor. “Beetlejuice” became a hit – but what is more important is those who created the phenomenon. In the world where girls were known for their smiles and rumors, Winona gave fashionable intelligence, melancholy and honesty. She looked not like the star from the poster, but like the girl from the rest of the party – reasonable, wonderful and efficient.

Winona and Generation X

After “Beetlejuice,” Hollywood wanted to build a turnkey vision from Ryder, but it took a different trajectory. Winona chose scripts that suited the minds: black satire, ironic melodrama, fairy tale film. All of these stories have heroines who don’t fit into the norm, and each one is like Winonia herself.

At the end of the 1980s, American cinema looked just right: comedies had turbo-free happiness, action films had inveterate heroics. Hollywood has polished itself to perfection. The film “Deadly Pull” appeared in this glossy world. Veronica is a wise girl who is forced to play by the rules of the school system, where popularity comes at the cost of humiliation and cruelty. The film was as caustic and cynical as the studios wanted for release. Who had the power of Vainonia: she didn’t play “good” or “bad” girls – she played people. And thus she became the voice of her generation.

Then – “Edward Knifehands”, a gothic fairy tale and one of the most iconic films of the 1990s, which made Ryder and Johnny Depp the leading romantics of the decade. In the story “Mermaids” its heroine grows between religious rules and the rules of life for powerful people. In “Reality Bites,” Winona becomes a symbol of the generation: tired, sensible, sarcastic people who don’t want to sell themselves for the sake of stability. “The Little Wife” offers new faces of female emancipation in cinema: the heroine writes, thinks, worries, and declares her ambitions for power.

Ryder immediately told the man that he could not fit into the tired framework of marriage. This career in the nineties is the map of the era. She also starred in the film “The Age of Innocence” by Martin Scorsese about the Gilded Age of New York, and played a mentally ill woman in the story “Life Interrupted.” She could quote Joyce and buy cloth for 10 dollars for the Oscar ceremony. This is how the paradoxical image was formed: a phantom of an intellectual cinema, a mirror of the first plan, which is like the most extreme human being. Vaughn became a style icon, even though she didn’t wear it, she simply wore what was right for her: men’s shirts, sneakers, faded scarf jackets, second-hand clothes and old baseball caps. And, of course, this very divacous honesty has made her a legend.

Гріхопадіння

At the beginning of the 2000s, when the era of sarcastic heroes ended in Hollywood and the era of Botox and reality shows began, disaster awaited Winona. In 2001, she was seen at the Saks Fifth Avenue department store near Beverly Gills: the actress was trying to bring designer items – cloth, lights, accessories – for a sum of over five thousand dollars. Pop culture has a new love scandal, and the press quickly collected headlines for the first sleepers, such as Winona's Fall From Grace.

Infinite footage from the trial, analysis of the psyche, detention and style at the same time. The trial was broadcast live, this is the final season of the series. Vaughn took away three years of intellectual term, 480 years of enormous work – and a very important document for the court: the status of “unreliable”. There is no justification for illegal actions – but it is important not to ignore the false standards. For decades, people in Hollywood have gotten away with violence, blackmail, and ruining the careers of other people. That's right, right down to the word. Todi Ryder emerged from the covers and immediately pressed onto the galma. Apparently this is not a fall from grace, but rather a rare act of self-preservation for Hollywood.

Woman pose system

Winona turned silently and quietly – she simply began to recreate herself fragment by fragment. Vaughn began playing a variety of roles. She starred with Richard Linklater in “Darkfall” – a story about people who step by step cope with reality. In Rebecca Miller's “The Private Life of Pippi Lee” – a woman who tries to preserve her life and healthy stomach amid the chaos of a wealthy life. And in “The Black Swan” by Darren Aronofsky, the woman was simply “written off” when a new star appeared. A short, yet unknown role – and at the same time a master class from fierce self-reflection.

In 2016, Netflix released the first season of the show “Diva Diva”. New Winona has become a mother who speaks with electric garlands, trying to find her beloved son. I didn’t ask. For the younger generation of voyeurs, the stench became a sign, for the older generation, it became a reason to guess why the stench fell in love with them thirty years ago.

Vainoni's turn was no longer necessary due to rebranding. Without an Instagram account, without strategic interviews and without dozens of covers. In front of her colleagues, she did not “reinvent herself”, did not become an influencer and did not talk about the “power brand”. This type of social distancing is a way to maintain distance from the world, which monetizes the skin. Its originality appeared to be consistent with any trends. Vona simply turned robotically. And that was enough for her to start shaking again.

Fragmenty life of Vainoni

Everything you need to know about the Winony Ryder phenomenon can be found in a number of simple stories. I just can’t write briefly about brilliant women. That's a given. Yakshcho vische here. Vaughn was suitable for the role in “Deadly Pull” (1989), a dark comedy about school violence, which studios were afraid to finance through its cruel and cynical plot. For the seventeen-year-old actor, this looked like professional self-destruction, and the film itself exposed a generation that did not trust the system. Ryder herself suggested casting Johnny Depp in “Edward Knifehands” – and thus one of the most devastating and well-known stories about difference in pop culture was born. In 1993, when a twelve-year-old girl was born in her native Petaluma, Winona came to help with the jokes. No one knows about this, but she worked on the hot line, encouraged the volunteers with a wet cat and asked not to guess her name in the news. And they will find out – female roles in films have consistently emerged as an obvious necessity.

Today there are fifty more. She doesn’t try to look young, doesn’t release a fancy brand of cosmetics, doesn’t talk about meditation. And the same price is paid for half of Hollywood – the quiet ones, who are the unspoken bells empty in the middle. Because in an era when everyone is trading in images, sensations and powerful privacy, you want to be on guard for the imperfect, the unrealistic, the reasonable and the slightly diva.
