Bright prints, rich colors, contemporary design, eclectic decorations, ornate cinematography and bright, playful costumes – the aesthetics of Pedro Almodóvar cannot be confused with anything. 40 successes in the film business, 21 feature films and two Oscars have earned him the position of master of contemporary Spanish cinema. Almodovar's 25th anniversary marks 70 rocks, in honor of which vogue.ua will name 7 of the most stylish films.
“Women on the edge of a nervous eye”, 1988
Still from the film “Women on the Brink of Nerves”, 1988
The heartbroken TV actor is trying to explain why she left her. Together with a surrealistic scenario and extraordinary characters, a kitschy look has been adopted: shiny denim jackets, Zucker-colored suits and polka-dot blouses paired with headbands and high nachos. Why do you want to decorate the shape of miniature espresso glazes!

“Everything about my mother”, 1999
Still from the film “Everything about my mother”, 1999
This drama brought Almodóvar an Oscar in the category “The most beautiful foreign film” and a legion of international panhandlers. The line “Everything about my mother” develops around a nurse who is going to Barcelona after the death of her son with the hope of catching up with the boy’s father. Instead of this, there is an eccentric group of sex workers, shahraivs, movie stars and a vagrant blueberry, as played by Penelope Cruz. The characters' wardrobes are stylish and decorated with cherry and cherries accents: from Cruz's headpieces to Cecilia Roth's carpal coat.
“Talk to her”, 2002
Still from the film “Talk to Her”, 2002
The film “Talk to Her” has two women – one is a matador, who suffered from a fight, and the other is a ballerina, who was hit by a car – who become objects of voyeurism for two men. Although the artistic muting is atypical for Almodóvar, the costumes are marvelous. Among the most stylish characters is Geraldine Chaplin in the role of an elegant dance attendant in white shirts and poorly tailored jackets.
“Return”, 2006

Taken from the style of Spanish mile operas and Sophia Loren to Hollywood, the movie “Turn” is surrounded by a sensitive touch. A riot of colors and prints fills the skin of the screen, looking at the ever-beautiful performance of Penelope Cruz in the role of Raymundi, a woman from the work class who is trying to kidnap her daughter. The respect for the details of the costume designer Bini Daigeler is second to none: she dresses Cruz in a Weserunka spade-olive, checkered tops and cardigans in a checkered pattern, with gold hoops and a medallion with a crochet images of the crucified Christ.
“Rozirvani obіymi”, 2009
Still from the film “Rozirvani obiymi”, 2009
A strict Alaïa suit, a Loewe seam scarf, a Chanel evening cloth with gold laces – the combinations in this thriller create a tense romantic atmosphere in the style of Hitchcock. Penelope Cruz plays an actor who is stuck between her teeth with a jealous financier and an affair with a director. If she chooses the other one, the couple flows to Lanzarote, and the luxurious sculptural cloth of the actor is replaced by no less miraculous light beds and wide-brimmed straw drops.
Juliet, 2016
Still from the film “Juliet”, 2016
Adapted from three accounts of Alice Munro's “Juliet” with a gentle portrait of a distant mother in front of her child. Almost overcome by guilt, grief and hope for reconciliation, it is impossible to renew contact with Donka. Hallucinatory speculations about Juliet's youth take revenge on the brightest fashion moments of the 1980s (big shoulders, clips), and their current ensembles are especially admired: Juliet willed the old Céline and Hermès, like Beatrice, is a Dior girl from top to bottom.
“Bil and Glory”, 2019
Still from the film “Bil and Glory”, 2019
In Almodóvar’s most special project at the moment, the director will remember his childhood, deal with emotional scars and settle down with powerful complacencies. Antonio Banderas in the lead role is thoughtful and melancholy, but his wardrobe is deprived of juice. Scarlet jackets in bright colors, suits in the tones of precious stones and shirts with prints – all of them were kindly created by Almodóvar himself from his special wardrobe.
