In the fall-winter 2025/2026 collections, designers prioritized items that communicate a narrative through their details. A standout representation of this inclination appeared in patchwork-style skirts – elaborate, with multiple layers, constructed from diverse materials and hues, they embody the concept of imaginative expression as a counterpoint to uniformity.

If in the past, patchwork was linked with handiwork or solely with boho aesthetics, nowadays it feels fresh. In the presentations of Etro, Chloé, Jason Wu and Maison Margiela, these types of skirts merged satin and ribbed velvet, leather and light chiffon, structured silhouettes with unrestrained asymmetry. They resemble artistic creations, where each section constitutes a distinct tale, yet collectively they compose a cohesive whole.

Silhouettes encompass everything from tiered maxis to pleated or frilled midi skirts. Some give the impression of being crafted from numerous skirts, where one is nestled inside another, or layered over a contrasting base. It represents a revitalized perspective on layering, bringing dynamism to even the most casual ensembles.

To highlight the skirt’s individuality, designers suggest pairing it with simple pieces – white blouses, understated basic tops or pullovers. In such a look, the primary emphasis falls on texture and color combinations. And those with a daring spirit should explore contrasts: patchwork combined with a leather jacket, oversized coat or metallic accessories.
