Your new Supergirl is none other than Milly Alcock. The actress was confirmed by DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn on January 29 after Deadline broke the news. Milly became one of the most sought-after young actresses in Hollywood after her breakout role as Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon.

So, who is Milly Alcock? The 23-year-old Australian star’s rise in Hollywood has been nothing short of super. Hollywood Life has everything you need to know about Milly.

Milly Will Play Supergirl

“Milly is a fantastically talented young actor, and I’m incredibly excited about her being a part of the DCU,” James wrote on Instagram. “Yes, I first became aware of her in House of the Dragon but I was blown away by her varied auditions and screen tests for #Supergirl. She embodies Kara as envisioned by @tomking_tk, @bilquis and Ana Nogueira.”

In the weeks leading up to the official announcement, it was reported that Milly was in the final stages of screen tests alongside Zombies star Meg Donnelly and CODA actress Emilia Jones. Milly ultimately won the role of the beloved character.

“So excited to be a part of the DC fam – thank you so much to @jamesgunn for trusting me with Kara / Supergirl,” Milly captioned her January 30 Instagram post. Milly will star as Kara Zor-El in the standalone Supergirl film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. It hasn’t been confirmed whether or not she’ll appear in Superman: Legacy.

Milly Rose to Fame as Young Rhaenyra Targaryen

Milly played the key role of young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon’s first 4 episodes. Rhaenyra is the first and only living child of Queen Aemma Arryn and King Viserys I Targaryen. She was positioned to be queen from a young age and became beloved amongst the people. However, the line of succession was soon questioned. In the back half of the first season, Emma D’Arcy assumed the role of the older Rhaenrya after a time jump. Season 2 will premiere later this year.

Milly Is From Australia

Milly grew up in Sydney, Australia. When she got the role of Rhaenyra Targaryen, she was living with her mom. “I was washing dishes in a restaurant, living in my mum’s attic. This doesn’t happen to people like me, so it was incredibly quick,” the actress told Stellar about the moment she heard she got the role.

Milly Is Close With Her ‘HOTD’ Co-star Emily Carey

Playing the younger versions of Rhaenyra and Alicent allowed Milly and Emily Carey to become “very close,” Milly told Hype. They met virtually before filming began to talk about the relationship between their characters. “We’re both young women, both doing a major show that usually is based around men. So we both developed a kindred relationship. I adore her and, like Rhaenyra, I’m very protective of her: I feel like she’s my little sister,” Milly said. When Milly posted about her Supergirl casting on Instagram, Emily commented, “SCREAMING.”

Milly Is A Photographer

Milly picked up photography during lockdown. “The ability to control an image and evoke a certain feeling is what drew it to me. And not always searching for the aesthetic, but a movement and a motive of the person in front of the lens that gets you interested,” the actress told Flaunt.
