Why Kate Middleton Loves This Picture of Princess Charlotte Sniffing a Bluebell

This past week, Kate Middleton gave an interview on the podcast Happy Mum Happy Baby with author Giovanna Fletcher that revealed a lot about her personal life as a mom to her three kids, George, Charlotte, and Louis.

In part of the interview, Kate shared that there is one photo of her four-year-old daughter, Charlotte, that she holds dear for a specific reason. The picture, which Kate reportedly took, shows Charlotte outside her family home at Anmer Hall in Norfolk smelling a bluebell that was growing on the property.

“I’ve got this one photo of Charlotte smelling a bluebell, and really for me it’s moments like that that mean so much to me as a parent, and I try every day to put moments like that in, even if they’re small or even if I don’t have time… but that in an ideal world is what I would like to do,” she said.

Earlier in the interview, Kate spoke about how important it is to her that her family spends time outdoors.

“I remember that from my childhood—doing the simple things, going for a walk together, and that’s really what I try and do with my children as well because it totally strips away all the complications, all the pressures,” Kate said. It’s something I’m really passionate about. “I think it’s so great for physical and mental wellbeing and laying those foundations. It’s such a great environment to actually spend time in, building those quality relationships without the distractions of ‘I’ve got to cook’ and ‘I’ve got to do this.’’And actually, it’s so simple.”

In the interview, Kate also spoke of her first few moments of being a mom when George was born in 2013. She and William made the traditional appearance outside of the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital, where Kate had given birth.

“Yeah, slightly terrifying, slightly terrifying, I’m not going to lie,” Kate said of the official appearance. She added that she and William appreciated all the support and celebration from U.K. citizens. but that the royal parents were just as nervous for all the first moments as other new parents. In the end, she said, it was all worth it.

“It is extraordinary as I’ve said. How can the human body do that? It is utterly extraordinary actually,” she said. “And he was very sweet. And I was also sort of relieved that he was a happy, healthy boy.”
