Victoria Beckham Says She’d Rather Die Than Wear Justin Bieber’s Crocs

Justin Bieber, with his Drew House line, pulled a very bold stunt, sending Victoria Beckham lilac Crocs embellished with cartoon animals for her to wear. She responded by posting them on her Instagram with a poll asking whether she would wear them.

When results came in, she let her real, unsurprising opinion be known: Not on her life would she wear those shoes. The “no” option won out anyway—but just barely at 57 percent.

“Will I be wearing lilac crocs?!” she wrote. “Well that was close! 🤔 I think I’d rather die but thank you anyway @justinbieber 😂” (The Crocs are sold out, by the way, so while Beckham won’t wear them, many other people will.) Beckham added in a later Instagram Story that “the Beckhams still love you, @justinbieber! 😂💕” as a little consolation to Biebs following her very public and brutal rejection of his sartorial gift.

Bieber hasn’t responded to Beckham on his Instagram (he instead posted about God’s love and his performance with Usher at 2011 Grammys among other things). But Beckham’s response to Bieber’s gift isn’t too surprising given her stance on fashion.

The designer spoke to Harper’s Bazaar UK in January 2020 about her design mentality and how it ties into her personal style. She prefers not to wear things that are complicated or that are just aggressively showy (like Crocs embellished with a skull cartoon character).

When designing her self-named line, “I was really focusing on the brand, looking at its DNA and at my community, being true to who I am and what my strengths are. I see those as beautiful clothes, great silhouettes, strange colors that you wouldn’t typically put together, which are almost so wrong they’re right,” she said. “It’s about presenting clothes that are elevated enough for the catwalk but that people are actually going to wear; it’s never about showing fashion for the sake of showing fashion. I don’t want to wear things that are complicated. I’m always developing what I want in my wardrobe and I think it’s important that evolves, so you don’t get stuck in a rut, shall we say.”

Her own style, by the way, has been “an evolution,” as she described it to the outlet.
