With salons largely closed across the country, quarantine has made amateur hairstylists of many—including Hilary Duff, it seems. The Disney actress changed up her long blonde hair, going short and aqua blue. Is it permanent? Unclear for now. Duff’s caption was a simple “🤷🏼♀️yea.”
Duff spoke with Miley Cyrus on Cyrus’ Bright Minded Instagram Live show at the end of March about what she has been up to during quarantine. Duff said she’s working on her product lines Happy Little Campers (diapers) and Veeda (feminine care products) while production is on hold for her series Younger. “I’m supposed to be shooting Younger right now but obviously we’re paused from that and hopefully we’ll pick up as soon as we’re all able to leave our house,” she told Cyrus.
The two did not discuss the fate of the Lizzie McGuire reboot that’s been up in the air at Disney+. But Duff did give an update to People at the start of April. The original vision for the Lizzie McGuire reboot had been considered too adult by Disney, and Duff had pleaded with the network to move the show to Hulu like it did with its Love, Simon series, at the end of February. “I feel a huge responsibility to honor the fans’ relationship with LIZZIE who, like me, grew up seeing themselves in her,” Duff wrote on her Instagram at the time. “I’d be doing a disservice to everyone by limiting the realities of a 30 year old’s journey to live under the ceiling of a PG rating….It would be a dream if Disney would let us move the show to Hulu, if they were interested, and I could bring this beloved character to life again.”
In April, Duff said, “There’s still conversations going on in hopes that we can find a way to meet in the middle and both bend a little bit. I understand that they have to protect their brand and there’s pretty strict guidelines on what that looks like. I just have to make sure it’s the right move for me and that I feel like I’m honoring her and the character, and that it will be relatable to the people who grew up with her because those are the people I really want to speak to.”
