If Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler’s breakup this week wasn’t enough to make you question your belief in everlasting love, Us Weekly is the bearer of more bad news: Rihanna and her billionaire Saudi businessman boyfriend Hassan Jameel have allegedly split too. Yes, sadly, Jameel has lost out on the great privilege of dating RiRi.
A source told the outlet that the couple quietly broke up. No details on when or why have come out, along with who decided to call it. But that’s not surprising: The two have kept their three-year relationship very private.
Reports of the two dating first came out in June 2017. According to The Sun, a “friend” of the couple said that in reality, Rihanna and Jameel had been dating months longer. “She has kept this under wraps, but they have been together officially since January [2017]. This relationship is the real deal….They’ve been spending a lot of time away from prying eyes and are really serious. His family are also extremely wealthy and private. She was coming into the UK on a regular basis to see him.”
Rihanna was last photographed on a date with Jameel in August. They had a wine and cheese date night in Beverly Hills. In June 2019, the two were shot on vacation in Italy, looking very cuddly and loved up.
Rihanna spoke a little about Jameel in interviews. Most recently in June, Rihanna confirmed to Sarah Paulson in Interview that marriage was a possibility with Jameel. When asked if she was in love, Rihanna replied, “Of course I am.”
“Are you going to get married?” Paulson asked after. There was a pause, which Paulson called out. “She’s silent!”
Then Rihanna said, “Only god knows that, girl. We plan and god laughs, right?”
Rihanna also talked about how dating Jameel made her prioritize her work-life balance more: “It’s only the last couple years that I started to realize that you need to make time for yourself, because your mental health depends on it,” she started. “If you’re not happy, you’re not going to be happy even doing things that you love doing. It’d feel like a chore. I never want work to feel like a chore. My career is my purpose, and it should never feel like anything other than a happy place. I’ve made little things a big deal, like going for a walk or going to the grocery store. I got into a new relationship, and it matters to me. It was like, ‘I need to make time for this.’ Just like I nurture my businesses, I need to nurture this as well. I’ll shut things down for two days, three days at a time. On my calendar we now have the infamous ‘P,’ which means personal days. This is a new thing.”
