Prince Harry Arrived in the U.K. for Prince Philip’s Funeral Without Meghan Markle

Prince Harry is back in England for the first time in over a year, ahead of this weekend’s funeral for Harry’s grandfather Prince Philip, People and Entertainment Tonight report. Harry touched down in his home country on Sunday, flying from California; his arrival comes two days after Philip’s death. Harry’s wife Meghan Markle and almost two-year-old son Archie remain in the couple’s Montecito home.

A royal spokesperson explained Meghan’s absence, saying the Duchess of Sussex, who is pregnant with her second child, “has been advised by her physician not to travel.” Meghan is due to give birth to her and Prince Harry’s baby girl this summer.

Philip’s funeral will take place at St. George’s Chapel on Saturday, April 17 at 3 PM London time. It will be televised but intimate in person, with the public requested not to attend in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Harry and Meghan paid tribute to Philip on Friday, posting a homepage tribute to the Queen’s husband on their non-profit Archewell’s site hours after news broke of his passing. “In loving memory of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh 1921-2021. Thank you for your service… You will be greatly missed,” the couple wrote.

Royal reporter Omid Scobie told Entertainment Tonight on Friday that Harry was “so close” to Philip, making this “a very difficult time for him.” Harry and Meghan did not talk much about their private relationship with Philip in interviews. But in their conversation with Oprah that aired last month, Harry touched on how close he was with the Queen.

“I’ve spoken more to my grandmother in the last year than I have [in] many, many years,” he said. “My grandmother and I have a really good relationship and understanding, and I have deep respect for her.”
