Kylie Jenner Is Forbes’ Youngest Billionaire in the World for Second Year

Kylie Jenner was named the youngest “self-made” billionaire in the world by Forbes last year when she was just 21. No one has dethroned her since. Forbes reports this week that Jenner has retained her title on this year’s billionaire list, with a net worth of $1 billion exactly.

Forbes noted there are nine other billionaires under the age of 30: Seven of them are heirs, and the other two businessmen are 29: John Collison (payments processor Stripe’s cofounder, worth $3.2 billion) and Evan Spiegel (Snapchat cofounder, worth $1.9 billion).

Jenner being called a “self-made” billionaire sparked debate, as many have pointed out that Jenner comes from the extremely wealthy and famous Kardashian family and has starred on their reality show Keeping Up With the Kardashians for years.

Jenner defended her self-made title twice last year: first, in an interview with Paper magazine released in February 2019. “The self-made thing is true,” she said, noting her parents “cut her off at the age of 15.”

“My parents told me I needed to make my own money, it’s time to learn how to save and spend your own money, stuff like that,” she continued. “What I’m trying to say is I did have a platform, but none of my money is inherited.”

Then a month later, she spoke about it again to Interview Germany. “There’s really no other word to use other than self-made because that is the truth,” Jenner said. “That is the category that I fall under. Although, I am a special case because before I started Kylie Cosmetics, I had a huge platform and lots of fans. I did not get money from my parents past the age of 15. I used 100 percent of my own money to start the company, not a dime in my bank account is inherited… and I am very proud of that.”
