One day after its airing, Britney Spears broke her silence on her sister Jamie Lynn Spears’ ABC News interview. The singer shared a long note on Twitter, where she detailed how she felt watching the interview while she was literally physically ill. Britney wrote that she feels Jamie Lynn, who did the interview to promote an upcoming memoir, was just exploiting her career success and past conservatorship “to sell a book at my expense.”
“My family ruined my dreams 100 billion percent and try to make me look like the crazy one,” Britney wrote.
Jamie Lynn addressed her role in her sister’s conservatorship to ABC News, maintaining she “took no steps” to be part of it and even privately tried to help Britney get counsel on how the terminate the legal arrangement. Jamie Lynn declined to speak about Britney’s state of mind now (“I can’t really speak to anyone else’s state of mind. I don’t think that’s fair.”) but confirmed that she described Britney as “erratic,” “paranoid,” and “spiraling” prior to the conservatorship in her book.
Britney especially took issue with this. “The 2 things that did bother me that my sister said was how my behavior was out of control,” Britney started. “She was never around me much 15 years ago at that time …. So why are they even talking about that unless she wants to sell a book at my expense 🤔📚 ??? REALLY ???”
Britney also touched on Jamie Lynn saying she didn’t understand why Britney was upset about her performing remixes of Britney’s songs at the Radio Disney Music Awards in 2017. Britney previously wrote on her Instagram that she was not allowed to perform remixes of her own music. “I asked for 13 years to perform new songs and remixes of my old songs,” she wrote in a post published last month. “I had two months off between each show setting for four years in Vegas, and every time I asked I was told ‘No.’ !!!!! It was a set up to make me fail yet I knew exactly what I wanted my fans to see and it didn’t make sense how network television shows are showcasing my music with remixes of all my music, yet the person who owns the music is told no!!!! They even gave remixes to my sister, but why was I always told no?”
Britney expanded tonight on why Jamie Lynn performing her music hurt her. “I know it may sound like a silly thing to most people, but I wrote a lot my songs, and my sister was the baby,” Britney wrote. “She never had to work for anything. Everything was always given to her !!!! If you were me, you might understand asking for 13 years of remixes to go into a small venue show and on tours !!!! 13 years later they assign me as the MOTHER OF ALL … heart of gold … Britney sitting there seeing a 15 minute performance of everything I have ever wanted. But see, I always was the bigger person. They all got to DO IT and PLAY ME and I always sat there and took it. But see, now it’s a joke … the last thing I would ever do is ask for what was just given to her !!! So yes, they did ruin my dreams. I do remember asking my sister why she did that when she knew I was waiting to change my show and her only words were, ‘Well, it wasn’t my idea’… Hope your book does well, Jamie Lynn !!!! I won’t be doing Instagram for a while. The media, this business has always been extremely hateful to me. I’ve given enough … MORE than enough. I was never given back ever what I want. They say in the Bible, ‘ask and you shall receive’ … uhhhh not in my life.”
Britney was candid about her family’s role in that: “My family ruined my dreams 100 billion percent and try to make me look like the crazy one while I have a 104 degree fever, not being able to move in my bed !!!!! My family loves to pull me down and hurt me always so I am disgusted with them !!!!!”
Britney detailed that her fever has improved today but that she is wary of doctors after what she went through with her family in her conservatorship. “Lesson learned from all this don’t trust people or anyone … make your cats and dogs your family and take care of your own damn self !!!!”
