It’s much more than a night cream.

La Prairie’s latest skin care launch was made to take up space.
Like the other products in the Swiss luxury brand’s Pure Gold line, the new Pure Gold Radiance Nocturnal Balm—a rich, decadent night cream—is set in a refillable gold vessel that will tower over the other products on your vanity. But as with all skincare, it’s what’s on the inside that counts. And in this case, the interior is filled with one of the most luxurious moisturizers we’ve ever encountered. As a bonus, there’s also a marble facial stone hidden inside the lid, which can be used to massage in your serums and relax facial muscles. The cost for this face cream with benefits? A cool $975 for two ounces.

$975.00
It is, without a doubt, one of the more expensive skincare products we’ve come across from this—or any—brand. To put it in perspective: La Prairie’s iconic Skin Caviar starts at $555, while the Platinum Rare Haute-Rejuvenation Cream will set you back $1,585. But La Prairie is banking on the science behind the formula. As its name suggests, the cream is made with real gold, which not only lends instant radiance, but is linked to other active ingredients for sustained skin strengthening and replenishment. Per Greg Prodromides, La Prairie’s chief marketing officer, the product is best for those with skin that is fragile, thin, dry, rough and dull, and/or deficient in nutrients.

According to the brand, the delivery system of ingredients provides a “three-peak action sequence to the skin.” In other words, you’ll first see a glow as soon as the cream is applied; second, you’ll notice overnight results after the active ingredients penetrate the skin while you sleep; and finally, you’ll continue to see skin appear more resilient the more you use it.

$880.00
As we mentioned, the Pure Gold Radiance Nocturnal Balm is also refillable. You keep the sturdy gilded vessel and marble face stone, then pop in an $880 refill as needed (it should also be noted that a little goes a long way; each balm should last quite a while).
To celebrate the launch, La Prairie teamed up with artist Carla Chan on an NFT that debuted at Frieze New York. Titled Fading Space of Dawn, the digital piece is composed of 366 editions—one for each day of the year—that are constantly changing. “My inspiration for the NFT started after my first residency with La Prairie, at the Monte Rosa Hut, situated close to Switzerland’s most impressive—and endangered—landscapes: glaciers,” Chan says. “The artwork speaks about fading nature by capturing landscapes that will soon no longer exist. I like the idea that the work continues to evolve beyond the artist’s life.”
