The American packaging firm has jointly created and manufactured a refill utilizing its Knoll Ecoform Molded Pulp for Guerlain’s Orchidée Impériale The New Longevity Cream.
Knoll Packaging states this groundbreaking refill comes after more than three years of collaborative investigation and progress, throughout which the innovation divisions of the two organizations teamed up to conceive, assess, and confirm a molded pulp substitute capable of safeguarding delicate skincare compositions. “It necessitated developing novel approaches to gauge its efficacy and adhere to Guerlain’s stringent quality benchmarks. In excess of 9,500 experimental units were fabricated and upwards of 80 impermeability evaluations performed,” according to Knoll Packaging.
Indeed, the evolution needed to resolve both pragmatic and visual hurdles. As molded cellulose pulp is conventionally employed for supplementary packaging, the Knoll Ecoform alternative mandated distinct adjustment to shield the item and maintain the cream’s condition. Therefore, a polymer membrane was integrated within the packaging to guarantee the best possible product conservation.
To fulfill the luxury brand’s aesthetic stipulations, specific consideration was devoted to surface refinements and the packaging configuration.
Knoll Packaging’s Ecoform Molded Pulp is sourced from sustainable plant-derived substances, encompassing bagasse (a derivative of sugarcane refining) and accredited wood cellulose.
“Our alliance with Guerlain exemplifies how technological advancement in packaging can boost sustainability within the luxury domain. This introduction redefines the potentials of molded pulp — validating its capacity to offer both safeguard and eminence. It is conceivably the paramount innovative accomplishment in Knoll Packaging’s four-decade-plus existence,” articulated Noemie Leblond, European Manager, Knoll Packaging.
“Eco-conscious design, the impetus behind innovation at Guerlain, is manifested in this unparalleled cellulose refill, initiating fresh outlooks for our commodities and, more broadly, for refills throughout the cosmetic field,” supplemented Claire Coletti, Global Sustainability Director of Guerlain.
The invention recently received a Formes de Luxe Award in the “Best Refill” division at the Luxe Pack Monaco exposition.
