Emma Stone and Dave McCary are now husband and wife, a source confirmed to People. The couple announced their engagement on Instagram in December and have now apparently tied the knot. This news follows rumors that Stone and McCary had secretly married, especially after they were seen earlier this month wearing gold bands.
The two have been together for three years; they met in 2016 when Stone was a host on Saturday Night Live. McCary is a segment director on the show. He directed the sketch “Wells for Boys,” featuring Stone. A source told People in December 2019 that the couple “got a home together in Malibu” sometime during the summer of last year.
“Dave is a super down-to-earth guy,” the source told People. “Most of his best friends are people he’s known since he was a kid, and he’s not affected by Hollywood. He’s very creative and funny, and he and Emma share the same sense of adventure.”
Over the course of their relationship, Stone and McCary have kept things pretty private, except for a few date-night photos here and there.
“They were happy and she was cracking up as she walked out,” a source told E! News, when Stone and McCary were out at Italian restaurant Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica in August 2019. “They got into their car and left quickly. They seemed good.”
Before Stone met McCary, she was in a five-year relationship with her The Amazing Spiderman co-star Andrew Garfield. The two remained great friends after their split; in a podcast interview for Vanity Fair, Garfield gushed about how much he admires Stone and her craft as an actor.
“I’ll speak for myself: You know, I’m her biggest fan as an artist,” he said. “I’m constantly inspired by her work. I’m constantly inspired by how she handles and holds herself. So for me, I’ve—it’s been bliss to be able to watch her success and watch her bloom into the actress that she is. And it’s also been wonderful to have that kind of support for each other. It’s nothing but a beautiful thing.”
