Princess Beatrice had a surprise wedding on Friday, opting to get married to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in Windsor with the Queen in attendance. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, neither Kate Middleton nor Meghan Markle attended the ceremony, but both congratulated the bride, albeit in different ways.
The Duchess of Cambridge took a more public route, posting a message to her and Prince William’s shared Kensington Palace Instagram Story over the weekend. The couple shared a photo of Beatrice and her new husband at their ceremony alongside the Queen and Prince Philip. Beneath a “Just Married” banner, they wrote, “Congratulations to HRH Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi who were married in a small private ceremony at the Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge, Windsor on Friday!”
The post Kate and William shared to celebrate the nuptials.
Meanwhile, the Duchess of Sussex and her husband Prince Harry, sent their well wishes separately. According to Hello!, a source close to the couple told the outlet that Meghan and Harry congratulated Beatrice and Mozzi privately. No further details were given about whether they texted, Zoomed, or had a phone call (or a combination of any of the three). Meghan and Harry have been quarantining in Los Angeles with their one-year-old son Archie. Kate and William have been staying in their Anmer Hall country home in Norfolk with their three children.
Meghan and Harry notably don’t have any active social media accounts currently. The couple stepped back from their senior royal family roles this spring and have stopped using their SussexRoyal handle as part of their exit deal. They have delayed the launch of their new Archewell non-profit (and all of its social media, presumably) due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Palace released a statement on Friday confirming Beatrice’s nuptials. “The private wedding ceremony of Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi took place at 11 AM on Friday 17th July at The Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge, Windsor,” the Palace said. “The small ceremony was attended by the Queen [Elizabeth II], the Duke of Edinburgh [Prince Philip] and close family. The wedding took place in accordance with all relevant Government Guidelines.” According to The Sun, about 20 guests attended.
