Taylor Swift Speaks Out Against Scooter Braun and Big Machine Records Releasing Live Album

The coronavirus pandemic won’t stop the drama between Taylor Swift and her former record label. Taylor Swift spoke out against Big Machine Records and its acquirer Scooter Braun on her Instagram this afternoon, claiming her former label is about to release a new album of her old live performances from 2008 at midnight. Braun bought Big Machine Records in the summer, and with that purchase he got the rights to the masters of the first six albums Swift made while with the label. Swift condemned this in June, calling it her “worst case scenario” for Braun to own her catalog because of “the incessant, manipulative bullying I’ve received at his hands for years.”

Swift told her fans that she does not approve of the release and that she suspects the only reason they’re doing it is as a cash grab.

She wrote:

Hey guys – I want to thank my fans for making me aware that my former record label is putting out an “album” of live performances of mine tonight. This recording is from a 2008 radio show performance I did when I was 18. Big Machine has listed the date as a 2017 release but they’re actually releasing it tonight at midnight.I’m always honest with you guys about this stuff so I just wanted to tell you that this release is not approved by me. It looks to me like Scooter Braun and his financial backers, 23 Capital, Alex Soros, and the Soros family and the Carlyle Group have seen the latest balance sheets and realized that paying $330 MILLION for my music wasn’t exactly a wise choice and they need money 😂In my opinion…Just another case of shameless greed in the time of Coronavirus. So tasteless, but very transparent.

Big Machine Records has not announced the release nor has Scooter Braun made any comment on it yet. The possibility remains that the record company may suspend its plan to release the tracks given Swift’s preemptive post condemning them.
