How to spend a day in Belgrade: from sightseeing to a bar party with DJ sets

Demokratija bar in Belgrade

Tourism in its modern form is a troublesome and extremely busy business. Especially when it comes to short trips to major cities – say, for a week. Because of the abundance of leisure activities on offer and the huge distances you will have to cover, you should plan such trips in advance, approaching them like a bank robbery – with attention to detail.

Belgrade is a city with a unique atmosphere where history, gastronomy and nightlife meet. Here you can enjoy architecture and culture by day, and in the evening immerse yourself in the world of signature cocktails and DJ sets. We have put together the perfect itinerary for you to feel the rhythm of the Serbian capital and end the day in one of the best bars in Belgrade – Demokratija.

Morning: discover history

Start the day with a visit to Kalemegdan, an ancient fortress with stunning views of the confluence of the Sava and Danube Rivers. Stroll through the park, check out the Military Museum and savour the atmosphere of history that permeates every street here.

From there, head to Knez Mihaila Street, Belgrade’s main pedestrian artery, where you can see majestic 19th century buildings, visit art galleries and enjoy a cup of aromatic Serbian coffee in one of the cosy cafes.

Day: Taste of Serbia

After your walk, it’s time to explore the local cuisine. The Skadarlija district, a bohemian neighbourhood with cobbled streets and traditional Serbian restaurants, is ideal for this. Here you can sample pleskavica, karageorgeva schnitzla and ajvar while enjoying live music and a warm atmosphere.

Evening: cocktails and DJ sets at Democracy

After a busy day, the best thing to do is to relax with a glass of author’s cocktail in a cosy atmosphere. The perfect place for this is the Demokratija bar, located between the historic Skadarlija and the bar cluster on Cetinska Street.

Every Friday there are parties with DJ sets, where the best electronic music is played, and the ground floor of the bar turns into a real dance floor. The music format ranges from house and disco to electro and retro hits, creating an atmosphere of freedom and fun.

Try the Why I’m Drunk, a cocktail with local Sinner gin, raspberry puree and vanilla liqueur, or the That Thing, a refreshing combination of cranberry infusion, citrus liqueur and Prosecco in an 850ml glass.

To round off the evening

After cocktails and dancing, you can go for a stroll along the Sava embankment or check out one of the city’s nightclubs. Belgrade is famous for its lively nightlife, and the night ends only when you want it to.
