Snoop Dogg Criticizes Cardi B’s ‘WAP’: ‘Let’s Have Some More Privacy & Imagination’

Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s hit ‘WAP’ may have been one of the biggest songs of 2020, but rapper Snoop Dogg reveals he wasn’t a fan.

Snoop Dogg has offered his thoughts on Cardi B‘s hit song “WAP”, and people are calling out the rapper for his hypocritical comments. The 49-year-old said Cardi and her collaborator Megan Thee Stallion should “reign it in” despite the fact he’s built a career off the back of singing about women’s bodies, oftentimes explicitly. “Oh my God. Slow down. Like, slow down. And let’s have some imagination,” Snoop said during an interview with Central Ave. “Let’s have some, you know, privacy, some intimacy where he wants to find out as opposed to you telling him.”

He continued, “To me, it’s like, it’s too fashionable when that is secrecy, that should be a woman’s…that’s like your pride and possession. That’s your jewel of the Nile. That’s what you should hold onto. That should be a possession that no one gets to know about until they know about it.” The musician, who has a 21-year-old daughter, said he might have been a fan of the song when he was younger. “When I was young, 21 or 22, I may have been with the movement, I probably would have been on the remix,” Snoop said.

“But as an older man, it’s like, I love it that they’re expressing themselves and doing their thing, I just don’t want it that fashionable to where young girls feel like they can express themselves like that without even knowing that that is a jewel that they hold onto until the right person comes around.” He added, “My daughter is from a different era. She’s from this era. She may be doing the ‘WAP’ or, you know what I’m saying, but I can’t be mad at her ’cause it’s her generation. But, at the same time, there’s things that I would rather see ’cause I’m an older man.”

Cardi recently revealed that she pays no mind to her critics. “I want to show people that you can do positive things, but you can also be yourself,” she told Billboard on December 2, after the outlet named her Woman of the Year. “I’m a very sexual person. I love sex, and I like to rap about it. I like to do it … I love my body, and I want to be able to express that. I’m just a naughty girl, and I’m not hurting nobody because I love my p***y and want to rap about it.”
