Katy Perry Reveals The Biggest ‘Challenge’ She’s Faced Since Becoming A Mom: I’m ‘Desperate’ For ‘A Reset’

In an interview with Hugh Jackman, Katy Perry explained why she wanted a ‘reset’ as she adjusted to parenting as a first-time mom. However, Katy found a solution.

It has been a little over three months since Katy Perry started her new role as a mom, and she’s already feeling the burnout. The 35-year-old pop star got candid about the challenges of being a first-time mom — which all parents could relate to — during a chat with Hugh Jackman and the actor’s wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, during the virtual Meditate America event on Dec. 3.  “I’m a new mother. My daughter — she’s such a gift — but there is sometimes a challenge concerning sleep no matter how much support you have,” Katy confessed during the interview.

“But where am I going to get those six hours that I used to get? Where did it go?,” Katy then asked. Thankfully, the “Daisy” singer found a solution. “But I know how to get it back. And it’s through TM,” Katy said, referring to transcendental meditation, which focusing on going “beyond the surface level of your awareness” according to the practice’s website. The unique form of meditation has been endorsed by celebrities like Jennifer Aniston and even Katy’s own ex-husband, Russell Brand, in the past!

Katy couldn’t stop raving over the benefits of transcendental meditation. “There’s been so many different ways TM has blessed me, but in this particular moment, as a new mother, I take 20 minutes. Not only do I find the deepest rest that I need, that my body is desperate for — but it feels like I’ve stolen two plus hours, maybe three hours, from the clock,” she gushed. The meditation also gave Katy the “deepest rest” that her body and mind had been “desperate for as a reset,” and it has also helped her manage her depression and anxiety.

While Katy has missed out on some naps since becoming a mom, Katy has “had so much support around her, which has made all the difference in the world,” a source EXCLUSIVELY told HollywoodLife in September, after the singer welcomed her daughter Daisy Dove with fiancé Orlando Bloom. “Not only has Orlando been there for her, of course, but her sister has been amazing and shared a ton of advice with Katy,” the insider added, who explained that in addition to quarantining with Orlando and his son Flynn, 9, Katy’s quarantine bubble included “her sister [Angela Hudson] and brother [David Hudson], and her nieces and nephews.”

In October, Katy went back to work as a judge on American Idol, and expressed her gratitude for having such a reliable co-parent. “Daddy [Orlando] has stepped in. I’ve seen the Bjorn on him, I’ve seen him with the bottle, I’ve seen all the pictures. It’s all good,” Katy assured during an interview with Entertainment Tonight. At least Katy can catch some sleep!
