Zendaya on How She Celebrated Her Historic Emmys Win

Zendaya made history last night when she became the youngest woman to ever win the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her work in Euphoria. She is just 24.

The actress did an interview with Entertainment Tonight and a separate red carpet interview with multiple outlets’ reporters (via Cosmopolitan and Deadline), where she spoke about how she felt about her historic win and the chill way she’s celebrating it with her family.

“It’s…I mean, beyond,” Zendaya told Entertainment Tonight. “I don’t even know how to describe how I feel right now. I’m incredibly grateful and honored.”

“I mean, just to have my family here, and that love and that support in this room meant so much to me—to be able to share this moment with all of them,” she continued. “I’m just happy and grateful and just…a lot of emotions happening. You know, the stressful part is over.”

She told press that same evening that she almost cried. “Yeah,” she said. “I don’t usually cry, and I definitely got through it without letting it take over completely, but again, it was obviously a very emotional moment and I still can’t believe it myself, so it’s pretty, pretty crazy.”

Zendaya explained to ET that she is going to “chill out” and enjoy her win with her family. Zendaya’s mom, dad, sister, and nieces were with her during the ceremony. Her stylist Law Roach was there too and captured footage of Zendaya from his vantage point when she was announced the winner of her category:

“I have my family here, all who have moved out of the camera view and are trying to whisper and be quiet,” she said. “We’re just gonna hang out, relax, have some fun, play some music, eat some food—you know, nothing too crazy.”

She told press she was grateful to have this moment of joy during such a painful year for everyone and to take it in with her loved ones.

“I mean I’m just grateful for moments like this, moments where we can have joy, and we can wrap our arms around our loved ones and tell each other we love each other,” she said. “And we’re proud of each other. I think it’s moments like this that we really have to all hold onto and cherish. And so I’m just grateful that obviously my whole family, who’s now standing off to the side and trying to be quiet, is on here to celebrate with me and be here. I definitely felt, you know, this wrapping of love around me as I was sitting here. So, I’m just trying to take it all in and be grateful for all the little moments that we do have of joy and happiness.”

On her Instagram Story, hours after her win, Zendaya wrote she was still processing it. “Still on cloud nine…so grateful, still speechless, to all my friends and family who have texted/tweeted/called etc. I promise I will get back to you tomorrow when I’ve wrapped my head around this amazing night, until then…gonna go to sleep and make sure this isn’t a dream.”
