Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler haven’t said a word to confirm or deny their split after it was reported in multiple outlets yesterday. And there’s a good reason they haven’t: They may not be totally over. E! got some greater detail from two sources, who explained that yes, Hudgens and Butler are not together right now. But they aren’t on bad terms, the breakup is strictly because of distance, and there’s very much a chance that they will date again when they’re back in the same place. The eight-year relationship isn’t permanently finished yet.
As the source explained, the two “are split for now” but are “going to see what happens. They have such a history and deep connection they could find their way back to one another. Right now she felt like he needed to go and be single and see if that’s what he really wants.”
This is because Butler is shooting Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming Elvis Presley biopic down in Australia. Hudgens is back in LA after shooting The Princess Switch 2 abroad. A second source told E! that “they’re just shooting on two different continents and it’s a matter of distance. There is no bad blood at all, and they have a lot of respect for each other.”
Hudgens spoke candidly about how the two have coped with long distance in her Cosmopolitan UK February 2020 interview that was released this month. “It’s eight years this year–FaceTime, good communication, respect and trust [are what keep us going],” she said. “The longest we’ve been apart was four months. It sucks! You start hating hearing yourself say ‘I miss you.’ But if it’s your person, you make it work.”
