Fans will have to wait one more week to see Taylor Swift at another awards show. After missing the Critics’ Choice Awards last week, Swift opted not to attend the Screen Actors Guild Awards tonight in Los Angeles. She will likely be at the Grammys next week, where she is a nominee and rumored performer.
Why did Swift skip the SAG Awards and Critics’ Choice Awards? There’s no compelling reason for her to be there. Swift has no nominations and has not been announced as a SAG Awards presenter. In fact, the SAG Awards have no category for best original song in a film. The Critics’ Choice Awards did, but Swift’s Cats single “Beautiful Ghosts” was not nominated. (Swift has never been to the SAG Awards, by the way.)
Swift was nominated for the category at the Golden Globes, but she didn’t win it there. And next month, if Swift attends the Oscars, it’ll be without a nomination too. “Beautiful Ghosts” didn’t even make the Oscars’ nominations.
Swift’s boyfriend Joe Alwyn isn’t at the SAG Awards tonight, and/but his project Harriet has one SAG nomination: Cynthia Erivo is in the running for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for her work in the film.
Swift’s skipping the SAG Awards comes shortly after she announced the release date of her Netflix documentary, Miss Americana. “Miss Americana 🎬 January 31 on @netflixfilm,” she wrote on Instagram.
It also comes after news spread that Swift spend her New Year’s Eve in the Maldives. A singer who performed there, Matthew Crane, wrote on his Instagram that Swift and Alwyn were in the audience for his performance. “So I can now finally reveal who I sung to on New Year’s Eve in the Maldives, probably the most notable Pop Star at the moment, the one and only @taylorswift and @joe.alwyn,” he wrote. “They were both so friendly and kind to me when I performed, they even gave me a standing ovation and complimented on my voice. It was truly an honour and an experience that I will never forget. 🎤🎶”
