Selena Gomez is supportive as ever of Taylor Swift, but she’ll be cheering on her best friend from afar should Swift win her first Golden Globe this evening. Gomez was not photographed on the red carpet or with Swift inside the Golden Globes ceremony in Los Angeles. She has no nomination, and she isn’t a presenter, so there’s no reason for her to be there. Joe Alwyn, Swift’s boyfriend, was photographed on the red carpet though and with Swift inside the ceremony.
Gomez, meanwhile, shared some new personal photos on her Instagram this evening as the red carpet was starting of her New Year’s Eve. She began this week on vacation in Hawaii for the holiday.
Gomez has actually never been to the Golden Globes ceremony, but she has been at the award show’s after party. She was last at the InStyle after party in 2016.
She was at the same party with Swift and her squad in 2015. Truly different times.
Swift has been nominated for a Golden Globe two times in the past but has never won an award at the ceremony. Her nomination tonight is for Best Original Song – Motion Picture for “Beautiful Ghosts” with Andrew Lloyd Weber. They wrote the new song for Cats.
Gomez last offered up glowing praise of Swift on December 13, Swift’s 30th birthday. Gomez wrote to Swift on her Instagram Story, “Love living many many many years of life with you. You mean the world to me. You help me become better everyday. Happy 30th, @taylorswift.” Swift showed how much she appreciated the message by reposting it on her own Instagram Story and adding a “I love you” sticker. Swift and Gomez have been close friends for 13 years.
Gomez explained in May 2018 during Swift’s Reputation concert that “the reason why she has been one of my best friends is because this person has never ever judged a single decision I’ve made. She’s always met me where I’ve been. She’s encouraged me when I’ve had nothing to be encouraged about, and I don’t know if I would be as strong as I am if I didn’t have you and your family because you’ve changed my life. And—she’s going to kill me after—but honestly, thank you for the bottom of my heart for supporting someone who I know is the most beautiful, strong, independent woman I’ve ever met. So thank you as a best friend.”
