Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes could’ve had their first big award show date of the decade at the Grammys tonight. Instead, they’ve spent most of the night publicly apart.
Cabello brought her father as her date on the red carpet, and she sang “First Man” to him during the broadcast. Mendes’ reaction to her performance wasn’t shown.

Mendes and Cabello were seated together, but no audience shots of them together have emerged. With any luck, that will change before the night ends. Cabello and Mendes are nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Señorita.” Cabello warned Radio.com that should they win the award, there may be some stripping involved in their acceptance speech. She was kidding, of course.
“If Shawn and I win the GRAMMY, we will walk on stage in our underwear like Twenty One Pilots did. That’s a promise,” she said. Then she ended the joke before it could become anything more: “Just kidding. It’s not. I gotta work out before I do that.”
She told the outlet that sharing a Grammy nomination with her boyfriend is a great honor. “It feels really special to get to share that kind of experience with someone that is first and foremost my friend that I’ve known for such a long time,” she said. “He was actually the first person, I think, that I wrote a song with, which was when we did our collaboration ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer.’ Flashing back to then when we were just two kids in a dressing room writing a song really quickly.”
