BTS joined the roster of legends to have participated in James Corden’s viral Carpool Karaoke series. Their ride had everything: the group teasing Corden in Korean and English, the boys singing their own hits (Jungkook in particular had an incredible solo moment during “ON”) plus the “Friends” theme song, Post Malone’s “Circles”, and Bruno Mars and Cardi B’s “Finesse.” And there was a bonus dance class BTS crashed with Corden.
Cardi B and Bruno Mars both loved the cover, with Cardi B quipping she’s out of a job:
The Late Late Show excellently handled the language barrier during the 16-minute episode. The boys still spoke Korean, which Corden couldn’t understand. Corden told RM, V, Jin, J-Hope, Suga, Jimin, and Jungkook early on that he didn’t speak Korean well and asked RM whether he serves as translator for the group. (“Yeah, of course,” RM replied.)
But the show included subtitles so everyone else could take in the action, from Jin and Suga’s great aside about RM learning English on Friends to Jin telling the group, “I don’t know what he [Corden] said, but let’s laugh.” Everyone’s personality came through, and it was glorious.
Corden even got an honorary nickname from Jimin. Corden was anointed “Papa Mochi” during the show when they were discussing Jimin’s fan nickname Mochi, which sparked fan memes, a lot of inside jokes on social media, and the Late Late Show With James Corden to rename itself The Late Late Show With Papa Mochi on its Twitter.
All in all, BTS’s carpool karaoke ride was a blast. Watch the full episode below:
