Media mogul Tyler Perry confirmed in the final episode of Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s new Netflix docuseries, that he is godfather to the couple’s daughter, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.
In the second volume of the miniseries, Perry details how he first decided to reach out to Meghan ahead of her wedding to Prince Harry and how he eventually offered his home for the couple to secretly stay in once they decided to relocate to Los Angeles.
Later on, as the Sussexes describe that their family felt complete once welcoming their daughter into the world last year, Perry confirms that the couple asked him to make it official and be Lilibet’s godfather.
"We’ll call and we’ll chat and we’ll talk about silly things, but they were pretty serious on the phone and I go, ‘Okay, what’s going on?’ They said, ‘Well, we’d like for you to be Lili’s godfather.’ I go, ‘Whoa.’ I had to take a minute to take that in," Perry says. "And I thought, ‘I’d be honored. I’d be absolutely honored.’"

Perry says he had only one stipulation regarding the big ask.
"I got off the phone, took it all in, and then called them back, and I go, ‘Uh, hold on a second—does that mean we gotta go over there and do all of that in the church with [the royal family] and figure that all out, because I don’t wanna do that," he says. "Maybe we can do a little private ceremony here and let that be that, and if you have to do it there, then that’s okay."
The final episode of the documentary gives an intimate glimpse at the duke and duchess’s lives as parents and specifically shares never-before-seen images and clips of their youngest daughter, whom they welcomed into the world in June of last year. Her namesake, of course, pays homage to two major women in Harry’s life: his royal grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, and his mother, the late Princess Diana.
