Taylor Swift released her latest album, Lover, in August of last year, and all 18 songs ended up on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. That said, Swift knows a thing or two about dropping a much-anticipated album and then watching it garner an insane amount of success.
Swift started off her new year by presenting at the 2020 Golden Globes, after which she got cozy with her boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, at a party. Swift’s 2020 seems to be getting off to a chill, sweet start, which she definitely deserves after a 2019 that was big for her career. She’s spending part of her 2020 by taking the time to give a shout-out to another new album, Selena Gomez’s Rare, which came out on January 10.
On Instagram, Swift posted a big congratulations post on her story for Gomez. Gomez, clearly flattered, took a screenshot of Swift’s post.
“Congratulations to @selenagomez and everyone who had a hand in creating this. . .Make sure to buy/stream/support this work of art and the beautiful soul who created it.”
Swift and Gomez have had a quiet and strong bond for a long time. In an interview with Wall Street Journal magazine ahead of Rare’s release, Gomez talked about her friendship with Swift, and Swift also shared her feelings about Gomez.
“We both went through sh*t at the same time,” Gomez said of Swift, whom she met when they were both dating Jonas brothers (Swift dated Joe and Gomez dated Nick). “She taught me a lot about how I should be treated at a young age.”
Swift spoke of Gomez as if she is her little sister; she said that that she will always her friend.
“There has always been this quality of sisterhood, and I don’t say that in a basic way,” Swift added. “I knew from when I met her I would always have her back. In my life, I have the ability to forgive people who have hurt me. But I don’t know if I can forgive someone who hurts her.”
