The second volume of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s docuseries dove into their decision to sit down with Oprah for a bombshell interview, but it also featured some pretty interesting BTS footage.
First of all, viewers got an inside look at Meghan Markle reading Buckingham Palace’s statement about the interview over the phone to her close friend Tyler Perry. Here’s the statement in question, in case you missed it:
"The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members."
On top of that, cameras were around to capture the exact moment that Harry got a text from his brother, Prince William, about the interview—prompting Meghan to get off the phone with Tyler Perry and help him process. While we didn’t see exactly what William texted to Harry, we did see him show Meghan the phone screen and say, "I wish I knew what to do."

Elsewhere in the episode, Meghan explained how the Oprah interview came about, saying, "Oprah had originally reached out to us through the communications director when we were at Kensington Palace. There was excitement. I remember that." She later added, "That interview, it was less about setting the record straight than at least filling in the blanks that other people were filling in for us."

Harry also noted, "We were here for a year until we actually did it. And sitting down with Oprah was a reaction to what had happened that year." Then Meghan elaborated, "The more distance that came between us having a smaller role with the institution and coming over here, the more of a vacuum was being built, and people just genuinely didn’t understand why we left."
Obviously, Oprah’s interview was a chance for the Sussexes to tell their story on their own terms, and gave people insight into exactly what they’d been through before stepping down as senior royals.
