Prince Harry is a year into living in California, and last Wednesday, paparazzi got a rare photo of the Duke of Sussex outside, just enjoying the Santa Barbara beach with his and Meghan Markle’s dog Pula. Harry, dressed in a backwards baseball cap, white t-shirt, sunglasses, and shorts, appeared in the ocean alongside his Black Labrador. Meghan wasn’t with him this time.
A source told People that “he looked totally at ease [during the beach outing]. He has a great relationship with his dog, walking it off-leash. He looked just like a Montecito local just doing his thing—very relaxed walking barefoot.”
Harry’s rare public appearance comes roughly a month after his and Meghan’s big Oprah interview aired. A friend of the couple told ELLE.com last month that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex want the process of healing with the royal family to begin “for their own health as much as anything else. They felt they needed to have these conversations so they can move forward and highlight some important issues as well.”
Gayle King also spoke on CBS This Morning a week after the interview and revealed she spoke to Meghan and Harry about the royal family’s reaction. “It’s true, Harry has talked to his brother and he has talked to his father, too,” King revealed. “The word I was given was, those conversations were not productive. But they are glad they at least started a conversation.”
“I think what is still upsetting to them is that the Palace keeps saying they want to work it out privately but yet they release these false stories that are coming out that are very disparaging against Meghan still,” she continued. “No one in the Royal Family has talked to Meghan yet or at this particular time. And I think it’s frustrating for them to see that it’s a racial conversation about the Royal Family when all they wanted all along was for the royals to intervene and tell the press to stop with the unfair, inaccurate, false stories that definitely have a racial slant. And until you can acknowledge that, I think it’s going to be hard to move forward. But they both want to move forward with this. They want healing in this family. At the end of the day, it’s Harry’s family.”
