Public photos of Beyoncé’s eight-year-old daughter Blue Ivy Carter are pretty rare, but her birthday yesterday gave the Knowles family a reason to share a new one with the world. Beyoncé’s father shared a tribute to Blue on his Instagram, where he confirmed yes, Blue has her mom’s #ootd posing genes. He shared a snap of her in a chic orange outfit, writing, “Happy Birthday to my beautiful and oldest granddaughter Blue Ivy. Love, Papa G.” Look at Blue working that print backpack and skirt:
Beyoncé recently shared new footage of Blue in her 2019 Bey-Cap. That’s typically how new photos of Blue emerge, with her mother posting them much later. No reports have come out yet on how Blue celebrated her birthday this year, but this is Beyoncé’s daughter, so chances are it was feted lavishly. (It was last year, anyway.)
Beyoncé spoke to ELLE for its January issue about how being a mother to Blue, Sir, and Rumi is the role that brings her the greatest joy in her life. She also touched on how becoming a mother to Blue changed the way she looked at success in her life.
“I had Blue, and the quest for my purpose became so much deeper,” she said. “I died and was reborn in my relationship, and the quest for self became even stronger. It’s difficult for me to go backwards. Being ‘number one’ was no longer my priority. My true win is creating art and a legacy that will live far beyond me. That’s fulfilling.”
