For many people, big travel plans are (rightfully) on hold this year because of the coronavirus pandemic. But Rami Malek and Lucy Boynton, Bohemian Rhapsody co-stars turned off-screen sweethearts, jetted off to Croatia for a three-week vacation, despite the UK’s recommendation that residents avoid non-essential travel abroad due to COVID-19. The couple has been staying in London during the pandemic.
It’s one of the first times the couple has been photographed by paparazzi this summer—and the latest example of celebrities ignoring government guidelines to take personal trips. According to the photo agency, Malek and Boynton have been with friends in Brac, Croatia, for the last three weeks. (It’s possible they all got tested for COVID-19 before traveling together, which makes the trip a little less risky, but the UK and U.S. governments generally advise against being unmasked and less than six feet apart with people who are not quarantining with you.)
Malek and Boynton have kept a low profile throughout their relationship. They were first reported to be dating in April 2018. In his February 2019 Best Actor Oscar speech, Malek very publicly declared his love to Boynton, saying, “Lucy Boynton, you’re the heart of this film. You are beyond immensely talented. You have captured my heart. Thank you so much.” He kissed her before going up to accept the award.
Updates about their relationship have been very limited since. The two have been photographed by paparazzi sporadically—sometimes out in London, Paris, or New York City, sometimes at fashion events.
In August 2020, The Mail on Sunday claimed a friend of the couple told them the two are planning a permanent move to London and are quite serious these days. “They’ve been looking at mansions in North London,” the source claimed. “They plan on settling down and starting a family here as Rami doesn’t get much privacy when he goes out in LA these days.”
