Meghan Markle and Prince Harry may be skipping Christmas at Sandringham with the royal family this year, but a big milestone is set to happen there anyway. The Sun reports that Kate Middleton and Prince William’s two oldest children Prince George and Princess Charlotte will join the royals for church for the first time. Typically, the royal family is photographed going to Christmas morning service in Norfolk, but the family’s youngest children do not join until they’re older. George is now six, and Charlotte is four.
A royal source told The Sun’s Emily Andrews that “it will be so sweet. George and Charlotte will make their Christmas debut, as long as they’re both on good form on the day.”
“It’s the picture all royal fans want to see,” the source continued. “The royals walking to church on Christmas Day is a rite of passage and so William and Kate didn’t want to expose their children too early, but they feel they’re old enough now.”
The source added that the hope is Charlotte and George will help the royal family image-repair a bit after its Prince Andrew-Jeffrey Epstein scandal. “After all the negative focus on Prince Andrew, these pictures will also emphasize the positive future of the Royal Family. Ultimately it’s the Queen who decides who does what on Christmas Day as it is a formal engagement. So perhaps she is conscious that this is a positive way in which to change the narrative.”
George and Charlotte have been photographed out at Christmas day service with their parents in Bucklebury (during a year Kate and William skipped the festivities at Sandringham) but never with the royal family in Norfolk.
