Meghan Markle did more than just show off her cooking skills during her quiet visit to Homeboy Industries last week with Prince Harry. She apparently flexed her Spanish speaking ability, Father Greg Boyle, the group’s founder, told People. The Duchess of Sussex “spoke Spanish perfectly with one young woman,” Boyle said. “She just went right into Spanish, which was a revelation—and it was very good.”
Meghan honed her Spanish skills during her college years, interning at the U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina, during one summer; she speaks fluent Spanish now. She also studied French for six years. In February 2019 during her tour of Morocco with Prince Harry, she impressed two girls she spoke to with her French language ability. Meghan was more demure about it, reportedly apologizing for her “high school French” skills.

Boyle told People that Meghan called herself to connect and arrange for her and Harry’s visit to Homeboy Industries shortly after George Floyd’s death. “She didn’t want to have a long-table discussion or presentation or even a tour,” Boyle said. “They knew we pivoted our organization to help address food insecurity in the county and that was intriguing to her, so she said, ‘We want to come and put an apron on,’ and that’s what they did. It was quite wonderful.”
Meghan and Harry helped prepare baked good, including croissants, with the group to help feed those in need in Los Angeles. Boyle praised Meghan’s baking ability as well, telling People, “Meghan is quite good at it.”
