Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and baby Archie are already getting their summer 2020 plans underway, per The Sunday Times. The family of three, who now live in Vancouver, are preparing for a major transition, but the Times said Queen Elizabeth has already extended an invitation to the young family for a vacation at her Scottish holiday home, Balmoral. They’ve reportedly accepted.
The couple is also reportedly spending time with Archie’s paternal grandparents, Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles, at Charles’s retreat at Balmoral. Harry’s side of the family hasn’t seen Archie since the family left for Canada at the holidays; he stayed in Canada as his parents traveled to the U.K. to finish out their royal duties.
The Times reported in January that the Queen is “very sad” that she and other members of the royal family have had such little time with Archie since his birth last May. The publication also said that the Queen was “disappointed” when she invited Harry, Meghan, and Archie to Balmoral last September and they turned down the invite.
When Harry and Meghan were living at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor before Archie’s birth and during his first few months, a former palace staffer told People that the Queen could actually have regular access to her grandson and his family.
“When the Queen is there on a Sunday afternoon, it is a five-minute walk up the hill for tea with Granny. It is gorgeous,” the staffer said.
But now that regular visits aren’t even really an option for the Queen, time in Scotland with Harry’s son seems to be a good plan. The Times reported that it’s not clear at the moment whether Archie will get to spend time with Prince William and Kate Middleton’s children, George, Charlotte, and Louis. Here’s hoping for some quality cousin time in the Scottish Highlands.
