Meghan Markle, newly freed from her full-time royal family role, spent her first week in Canada doing the glorious, mundane things she hasn’t been able to experience in years. She drove herself to a drug store. She visited two women’s organizations, without a herd of reporters or Buckingham Palace tweeting about her plans. She didn’t even need to post on the @SussexRoyal Instagram to get global news pickup.
And yesterday, she drove to the airport to pick up longtime friend Heather Dorak. Paparazzi captured Meghan, wearing a coat, black beanie, and sunglasses, driving her car at Victoria International Airport. She has a huge smile on her face, and Daily Mail has the photos exclusively right now, which you can see here.
Meghan had what appeared to be a security guard in the car with her and was snapped hugging Dorak. She waited around 10 minutes for Dorak to arrive, Daily Mail reports. Dorak is a close friend of Meghan’s and a Pilates teacher, and attended the royal wedding in May 2018. Meghan has been staying in Vancouver Island while in Canada, where she and Prince Harry also spent their break from royal duties last month.
Now, Harry remains in England, where he has been in meetings and will remain so until early next week. Perhaps Meghan will pick him up from the airport too? The next time you grumble about picking someone up from their travels, remember Meghan’s joy—some duchesses would give up their royal family roles just to take on the tasks you loathe.
