Meghan Markle Honores Ruth Bader Ginsburg as ‘a Justice of Courage’

Since Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death on Friday, the tributes of her worldwide admirers have been rolling in. In a statement provided to E! News, Meghan Markle joined the chorus of heartfelt praise toward the late Supreme Court justice.

“With an incomparable and indelible legacy, Ruth Bader Ginsburg will forever be known as a woman of brilliance, a Justice of courage, and a human of deep conviction,” she wrote. “She has been a true inspiration to me since I was a girl. Honor her, remember her, act for her.”

It’s not surprising that Ginsburg was a hero of Meghan’s when she was young; she’s been a feminist activist from an early age. After seeing a commercial for Ivory Dishwashing Liquid with the line “women all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans,” 11-year-old Meghan wrote a letter in protest to the soap’s manufacturer, Procter & Gamble. She suggested the line be changed to: “People all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans.”

Because of this act, she was featured on Nick News in 1993:

Meghan also addressed the letter to civil rights lawyer Gloria Allred, then-first lady Hillary Clinton, and Nick News anchor Linda Ellerbee.

Those actions from young Meghan very much go along with this quote from RBG, as she explained the purpose behind her many famous dissents on the Supreme Court: “Dissents speak to a future age. It’s not simply to say, ‘My colleagues are wrong and I would do it this way.’ But the greatest dissents do become court opinions and gradually over time their views become the dominant view. So that’s the dissenter’s hope: that they are writing not for today, but for tomorrow.”
