Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Found Their Royal Exit to be Partly ‘Saddening’

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s royal transition will be officially underway next month. Per the couple’s website, Sussex Royal, they have outlined some updates on how things will roll out going forward. The site also mentions that the duke and duchess have been going through some significant emotions as they make the transition out of their senior royal roles.

“Over the last month and a half, The Duke and Duchess have remained actively involved in this process, which has understandably been saddening for The Duke and Duchess and their loyal staff, given the closeness of Their Royal Highnesses and their dedicated team,” the statement reads.

As The Telegraph reported earlier this month, Harry and Meghan are closing their office at Buckingham Palace, and 15 staff members have been laid off. The publication reports that some staffers might be reabsorbed into other households while others will start fresh in new roles elsewhere.

Since the couple announced their news in January, they have been living a life quite different from the one they led in the U.K. Per People, Meghan and Harry have worked hard to keep their private days with their son, Archie, out of the press. The new parents’ life in Vancouver has been pretty low-key.

“They both love to be outside and have been loving it there,” a friend of the couple told the magazine. “They are enjoying living a quiet life,” the source continued. “They go for long walks, they do yoga, and Meghan cooks. They are real homebodies who love to chill out with Archie and the dogs.”

The statement on the website also included information on how Harry and Meghan’s charity work will go going forward: “As shared in early January on this website, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex do not plan to start a ‘foundation,’ but rather intend to develop a new way to effect change and complement the efforts made by so many excellent foundations globally.” In addition, they will be dropping the term “royal” from their foundation title.

“While The Duke and Duchess are focused on plans to establish a new non-profit organization, given the specific UK government rules surrounding use of the word ‘Royal’, it has been therefore agreed that their non-profit organization will not utilize the name ‘Sussex Royal’ or any other iteration of ‘Royal,’ the new site states. “For the above reason, the trademark applications that had been filed as protective measures and that reflected the same standard trademarking requests as done for The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, have been removed.”
