Karlie Kloss is ready to talk about that “not even to dinner with the Kushners” meme that went viral on this season of Project Runway and where exactly she stands politically as the sister-in-law of President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump. Kloss is married to Joshua Kushner, the younger brother of senior advisor Jared Kushner.
On Watch What Happens Live!, Andy Cohen gently asked her about the moment her family ties were called out on TV. “Well, listen, I was honored to be one of the first memes of the decade,” Kloss started. “But honestly, the real tragedy of this whole thing is that no one is talking about how terrible that dress was! That’s why he went home! And no, I would not wear that dress to any dinner.”
Cohen asked Kloss about her politics and whether she aligns with the family’s. She had an excellent response that even got Cohen’s other guest, Martha Stewart’s, approval. “Andy,” Kloss said. “I’m sure I’m not the only person in this country that does not necessarily agree with their family on politics. I voted as a Democrat in 2016, and I plan to do the same in 2020.” She cited her passion for progressive issues, including women’s reproductive health. “I’m very involved with Planned Parenthood,” she added. Trump is obviously not the same, and he has expressed a desire to defund the reproductive health nonprofit.
She explained that dating a Kushner hasn’t been without its challenges, but her journey with her husband has been worth them all. “I met my man in 2012,” she said. “I was 19 years-old. It was 2012. It was a different world. And my man and I have been through a lot together. I’m so proud that he’s my partner. It’s not been easy, but it’s worth it and I’d make that same decision a million times again.”
